India is swiftly becoming one of the most important and fastest growing markets for smartphones and to validate this claim, India will getting its very own trade show soon. The new trade show proposed for the Indian market is being conceptualised by the brains behind the World Mobile Congress, affirming the importance of India’s smartphone market
The new trade show will be dubbed the Indian Mobile Congress (IMC) and is slated for September 2017. It is being organised by the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) and supported by the GSM Association (the group behind MWC).
IMC is being introduced to the Indian market at a time when there is a huge lack of such conferences in the South-East Asia region. Considering that the region consists of two of the world’s biggest markets for smartphones, this move will help Indian and International phone manufacturers to reach out to other regional markets as well. MWC is the world’s biggest conference and is held annually in Europe and China and never really reached out to South East Asian territories.
MWC is a platform for smartphone manufacturers like LG, Samsung and Sony to announce their flagship phones annually, however, Samsung opted to be absent for the 2017 edition.
India has been dominating smartphone sales in the world market and has already destroyed the sales figures of the US. India has the second most Internet users in the world and a majority of them use a smartphone to access the Internet which has attracted massive interest from companies like Google, Facebook, and Microsoft.
